The Front Gate of the Si He Yuan

The front gate of many Si He Yuan is usually located at the southeastern corner. This is according to the traditional concepts of the five elements that were believed to compose the universe, and the eight diagrams of divination. Normally there is a screen-wall inside the gate so that outsiders cannot see directly into the courtyard, and it is also believed to protect the houses from evil spirits. Outside the gate of some large Si He Yuan, there is usually a pair of stone lions on each side, also to protect from evil spirits. A Si He Yuan residence offers space, comfort and quiet privacy. The gates are usually painted vermilion and have large copper door rings.

The front gate of our hotel shows an impressive look, representing the higher level of an ancient residence in the Qing Dynasty. All drawings are hand-painted by artistic craftsmen, displaying incredible details. The paint used is real gold which symbolizes the glory and wealth of life.

The Rear Courtyard

There are four rooms in the rear courtyard. They are named Tang Palace, Yuan Palace, Hong Palace and Qing Palace. Chinese roses are in full blossom in the flowerbeds, next to which some small beautiful birds are usually playing merrily. One can also expect to see coi and goldfish swimming in a big water vat in the center of the courtyard.

There are several cane chairs and round tables for you to have a chat and cup of tea with your friends while listening to traditional Chinese music. Everything here can turn the time back to the good old dynasty days.
