Beijing's Four Seasons
There is clear distinction of the four seasons of Beijing. Spring and autumn are quite short. Spring is from the beginning of April to mid of May with an average temperature of 17 centigrade. Summer is from June to mid of September with an average temperature of 33 centigrade. Autumn is from the end of September to mid of October with an average temperature of 25 centigrade. Time for Travel
The best time for traveling in Beijing is in spring and autumn. Summer is the busy tourism season. You'd better avoid traveling in this period if time permit. Park scenic spots in Beijing are usually open from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. Every big mall usually will not close until 9:30 at night. The close time is usually prolonged in summer. Business hours of companies and banks are from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon. From 12:00 to 1:00 at noon is lunch time. Banks and malls are not close in Saturday and Sunday.

The voltage in Beijing is 220volts.

China's Currency
The currency in China is called Renminbi. It is issued by the national bank--the People's Bank of China. The unit of Renminbi is Yuan. The fractional currency is Jiao and Fen. One Yuan is ten Jiao. One Jiao is ten Fen. There are paper currency of Yuan, Jiao and Fen and there are also nickel coins of Yuan, Five Jiao and Fen. Face value of Yuan is ranged from 1 Yuan, 2 Yuan, 5 Yuan, 10 Yuan, 20 Yuan, and 50 Yuan to 100 Yuan. Face value of Jiao is ranged from 1 Jiao, 2 Jiao to 5 Jiao. Face value of Fen is ranged from 1 Fen, 2 Fen to 5 Fen. The abbreviation of Renminbi is RMB.

Newspaper
Beijing Evening Newspaper is 0.5 Yuan for each. Life Style is 1 Yuan for each. The large content of these two kinds of newspaper could help you understand relevant information about news, entertainment information, shopping guide etc. News stalls also sell other types of comprehensive and professional newspaper. The English China Daily and Beijing Weekends are sold in every post office. Waiters are responsible to deliver newspapers to the room in hotels at high level. China Radio International broadcast to the world over in 39 languages and the four local languages of Chinese everyday. Telephone
There is IDD telephone in general hotel rooms. 10% extra service fee is charged at the hotels under four-star level. 15% extra service fee is charged at hotels of four-star and five-star level. The fee shall be charged with the accommodation fee together when you check-out. One could also make collect international call in Beijing.
You could make call to 2094 places of China directly by using the direct distance dialing. Please dial the trunk code of the city you want first (dial "0" first, dial "176" for inquiry), and then dial the number. The extra-charged fee standard is the same as dialing international call. Domestic long-distance call of China Telecommunication is charged 0.07 Yuan every 6 seconds. Long-distance call of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan is charged 0.2 Yuan every 6 seconds. International long-distance call is charged 0.8 Yuan every 6 seconds. Domestic long-distance call is charged by 60% from 00:00 to 7:00 every day. The international long-distance call dialing to the following 15 countries is charged by 60% from 00:00 to 7:00 every day-Japan, United States, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, France, Great Britain, Italy, Thailand, Malaysia, Germany, Canada, Philippine, Indonesia, Korea. The fee for using public telephone in the city shall be charged by abiding by the charging standard of public telephone strictly. You can dial complaint telephone (96108000) to report in case of overcharge. The ordinary public telephone watched by person in the city is charged 0.4 Yuan every 3 minutes. Every minute is charged extra 0.2 Yuan after the first 3 minutes. Domestic long-distance call is charged 0.8 Yuan every minute and international long-distance call is charged 8.2 Yuan every minute. Fees of local call are charged 0.5 Yuan at the first 3 minutes and extra 0.2 Yuan every minute after the first 3 minutes. Domestic long-distance call is charged 0.7 Yuan every minute. The half-price regulations for using at holidays, festivals and night shall not apply in public telephones. Unicom 193. IP1790, card have been accepted generally in Beijing and could be used in most of the public telephones.

Foreign Currency Exchange
Exchangeable foreign currency includes the following 13 kinds-Great Britain Pound, Eurodollar, U.S. Dollar, Swiss Franc, Singapore Dollar, Sweden Crown, Denmark Crown, Norway Crown, Japanese Yen. Canana Dollar, Australia Dollar, Philippines Peso, Thailand Currency. In addition checks with the face value of Eurodollar and Spanish Peseta are also exchangeable.
The circulation of foreign currency is forbidden and the valuation and bill payment shall not use foreign currency within the People's Republic of China in accordance with the Exchange Control Regulations currently in effect of our country. In addition to accept exchange business of traveler's check of foreign currency and foreign credit card, Bank of China and other authorized banks for dealing in foreign exchange also accept exchange business of 22 kinds of foreign currency and new Taiwan currency in order to provide money-using convenience for foreign guests and country fellowmen of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan traveling in China. In addition, some hotels, restaurants and shops could also accept foreign exchange business in order to provide convenience for foreign currency holders. Renminbi, which isn't used up after exchange, could be exchanged to foreign currency by holding the foreign exchange bill valid in six month. The exchanged foreign currency could be carried out of the country. Different quote price shall be used in different exchange condition. Buying rate shall be used when exchanging traveler's check, credit card and remittance. Selling exchange rate shall be used when exchanging money to foreign currency including exchange money into foreign currency cash. Price of buying foreign cash shall be used when buying foreign cash.
